About Mountain Leader Training


Mountain Leader Training was established for the public benefit of education and training in the skills required for the leadership and instruction of safe hill, mountain and moorland walking, mountaineering, rock and ice climbing and other associated activities practised in cliff and mountain environments and to offer advice on matters of training and safety.

Technical Officer: Steve Long

Steve is a mountaineer with over 30 years' experience. He is a British Mountain Guide and an MIC holder, a founding member of the Association of Moutaineering Instructors (AMI).

Having worked at Plas y Brenin, the National Mountain Centre for 14 years as a trainer and assessor on all of the British instructional qualifications he is well placed to represent the interests of Mountain Leader Training in the UK and overseas. In 2002 he wrote the MLTUK publication, "Hillwalking", followed by "The Climbers Handbook" in 2007 and a DVD on self rescue skills.

Steve is an active climber, currently leading E6 on rock and VIII in winter. His favourite pastime is walking and climbing with his son, Sion Idwal Long. Expeditions include 3 trips to Lows Gully in Borneo, an attempt on Great Trango Tower in 2001, work in Spitsbergen and the Antarctic, an unseasonal ascent of the Yukon's Lotus Flower Tower and a successful ascent of Cerro Torre, Patagonia in 2005.

 

Finance Manager: Sue Doyle

Sue manages the finances and co-ordinates communications between the many organisations who use our facilities.
 

Administration Manager: Corinna Parry

Corinna organises the office and acts as adminstrator for both MLT and MLTW. A fluent welsh speaker, she is also taking an increasing role in contributing to the websites.
