Developments in Single Pitch and Mountain Leader Awards Reviews are now complete for the Mountain Leader (ML) and Single Pitch Award (SPA) resulting in very few changes to the basic syllabus but a range of developments in the guidance notes.
Steve is a mountaineer with over 30 years' experience. He is a British Mountain Guide and an MIC holder, a founding member of the Association of Moutaineering Instructors (AMI). Having worked at Plas y Brenin, the National Mountain Centre for 14 years as a trainer and assessor on all of the British instructional qualifications he is well placed to represent the interests of Mountain Learder Training in the UK and overseas. In 2002 he wrote the MLTUK publication, "Hillwalking", followed by "The Climbers Handbook" in 2007 and a DVD on self resuce skills. Steve is an active climber, currently leading E6 on rock and VIII in winter. His favourite pastime is walking and climbing with his son, Sion Idwal Long.
Expeditions include 3 trips to Lows Gully in Borneo, an attempt on Great Trango Tower in 2001, work in Spitsbergen and the Antarctic, an unseasonal ascent of the Yukon's Lotus Flower Tower and a successful ascent of Cerro Torre, Patagonia in 2005.

British Mountain Guide Phill Thomas oversees the Mountain Leader Training Association on a half-time basis in a post shared with Mountain Leader Training Wales. More information from Phill to come soon.
Finance Manager: Sue Doyle
Sue organises the office and co-ordinates communications between the many organisations who use our facilities. She will be writing a short biography just as soon as she gets back from her latest trekking expedition.
Purpose
Mountain Leader Training UK was established for the advancement
for the public benefit of education and training (in conjunction
where appropriate with other bodies or persons) in the skills
required for the leadership and instruction of safe hill, mountain
and moorland walking, mountaineering, rock and ice climbing and
other associated activities practised in cliff and mountain environments
and to offer advice on matters of training and safety.
Membership
MLTUK is run by a board, which comprises the following members:
one vote for the British Mountaineering Council;
one vote for the Committee for Wales of the BMC;
one vote for the Mountaineering Council of Ireland;
one vote for the Mountaineering Council of Scotland;
two votes for Mountain Leader Training England
two votes for Mountain Leader Training Northern
Ireland;
t wo votes for Mountain Leader Training Scotland;
two votes for Mountain Leader
Training Wales;
And observers from:
